Mr. Manin Inprom, Vice President, Head of Manufacturing Division of Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited (SSI), jointly with 15 pilot organizations declared intention to participate in the project on “Preparation of Goods Exported into the European Union under the CBAM Measures”. This project, which was held on February 5, 2024 at Rama Gardens Hotel Bangkok, was a collaboration between the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) (TGO) and Chulalongkorn University to prepare readiness on information and processes relevant to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) of the European Union.
SSI, “the leading organization on development of greenhouse gas management innovation” under Thailand Carbon Neutral Network (TCNN), declared intention to reduce greenhouse gas emission to move forward to carbon neutrality within 2050 in accordance with the national goal and to develop the environmentally steel products, innovation, technology, usage of clean energy for sustainability of the industry in the future.
At present, CBAM is under transition period where the importers of 6 target groups of goods, such as, cement, electricity, fertilizers, iron & steel, aluminium and hydrogen must report the imported amount including embedded emission of the goods. Implementation of CBAM will be fully effective on January 1, 2026 where the importers must purchase CBAM Certificate pursuant to the imported amount and carbon emissions produced in creating the goods.
